Marva Langevine
Marva Langevine, Director, As a Trustee of CHFC, and a Spanish teacher by profession pursuing studies in psychology, Marva Langevine is a young woman with avid enthusiasm for making positive contributions and changes to the world around her. She has found her calling in helping those who have lost a loved one, not only by offering sympathy and moral support, but by providing tangible assistance in a variety of practical ways for families affected by grief and loss. Marva’s inspiration for her dedication in this regard stems from the death of her close friend Mikiesha in 2014, who lost her life to cancer. Mikiesha left to mourn two young sons. Realizing the harshness of the realities of living without a parent, both psychologically and economically, Marva was motivated to do all in her power to assist the boys.
Almost as if by divine design, more and more cases of children losing parents came to Marva’s attention, this is how she inadvertently began to champion the cause of childhood bereavement awareness. She decided to make the bold step to form a non- profit organization dedicated to grieving children, widows and families. She entered the Miss World Guyana pageant in 2016 in order to bring awareness to her cause and won the Beauty with a Purpose Award. Her charity, The Guyana Golden Live Organization has been officially formalized as a Trust. Through it, Marva provides various forms of assistance and support through home visits, hampers, camps, workshops and scholarships.
Marva holds a Bachelor of Education Degree (Modern Languages) and is currently pursuing a Diploma is Psychology at the University of Guyana. Marva was a participant in the 10th UNESCO Youth Forum in 0ctober 2018. The forum was held at UNESCO’s Headquarters in Paris, France. She worked along with other youth advocates in her field, to highlight constraints and create a framework for solution in order to preserve and make heritage relevant and youth friendly.
Marva also works closely with Women’s Wednesday Guyana and Covenant Home for Children. The value to Marva’s work was recognized when she was chosen as the Guyanese to receive the prestigious Queen’s Young Leaders Award. The award entailed bespoke learning, training, mentorship from world renowned experts, and general support needed to take the charity to the next level. Marva is now an experienced mentor, consistently passionate about her cause. Her aim is to have a regional impact as she proliferates her work in the underestimated area of grief and loss, especially in childhood.
