February 23, 1963 – December 17, 2020
As a faith-based charitable organization tasked with positively impacting the lives of youth, Covenant Home for Children (CHFC) is committed to a love-driven approach to social services. Our foundation is built on the love that our founders have for those without a voice or the ability to change their circumstances. Simply, CHFC would not progress without the spiritual drive and initiative shown by our founders.
Sadly, on December 17th, 2020, we lost not only one of the founding members of CHFC but also one of our most uplifting spiritual drivers in our First Lady, Mrs. Lavone Seetal. For over twenty-five years, Walter and Lavone Seetal shared a life together which included a vision to build a charity and children’s home in Walter’s birthplace, Guyana, South America. In her commitment to helping the pained and bereaved, Lavone expressed her love for our youth through her passion for song, music, education, and family. Earning her Communications and Fine Arts degree in 1985 from Loyola Marymount University, Lavone would eventually earn her Master of Arts degree in 1989 from Howard University. |
Lavone was blessed with an innate ability to connect with the youth through the arts and she would share her gift throughout the years as a Music Teacher, Choir Director, and even as a Background Vocalist for the legendary rock musician, John Fogerty. All while working to help build CHFC and making annual trips to Guyana with Walter, Lavone was committed to her career in education, and in her continuing education, as she would ultimately earn a Master of Music Education degree from Azusa Pacific University in 2018, where she also maintained a faculty position.
For years, the Seetals would travel to Guyana and support charitable causes aimed at helping the youth, but after incorporating CHFC in 2015, Lavone remained diligent in her monthly financial support of bereaved children working with the Guyana Golden Lives Organization. Further, Lavone would personally travel to the marketplace in Georgetown, Guyana to purchase school supplies, backpacks, shoes, uniforms, and whatever else would be needed by children who had recently lost their parents. Her diligence and commitment to our mission will remain as a driving force to our board’s continued work.
Thus, in honor of Lavone and her charitable contribution of love and song to our world, we happily announce the renaming of our bereavement fund to be the “Lavone Seetal Bereavement Fund”
